From Severe Autism to a Million-Follower Creator: How Wild a Story Is This?

"Zicheng is actually better already — he's just playing with his dad!" — a viewer's comment under the Douyin account Yunhai Hengxing

Once again, an overwhelming flood of traffic is pouring toward an autism family.

Zicheng, a 16-year-old boy on the spectrum, has suddenly gone viral across the internet — thanks to one irresistible catchphrase, "Flick it — crack it!", and a "shocked face" meme he makes while getting a haircut.

Netizens are having a wonderful time turning him into a meme, yet few of them know that this "chosen meme-making machine" was originally diagnosed with severe autism.

And holding all of this up is Zicheng's father — born in 1981, his hair long since turned white from the strain.

Zicheng's dad runs a very plain Douyin account: no fancy editing, just the honest, day-to-day grind of intervention. The most famous bit, "flicking eggs," is actually a training exercise he devised to build Zicheng's fine motor skills in his hands.

From the early days, when he couldn't crack an egg and was scolded to "pay attention," to later, when it became a conditioned reflex he could perform smoothly — father and son walked that road of training for many years.

No one knows how much unspoken bitterness Zicheng's father keeps behind the camera.

He has had cancer and endured the pain of radiation therapy. He has struggled with depression and anxiety, with all kinds of medication lined up on his nightstand. A severe cold once cost him more than twenty jin in half a month — one night, looking in the mirror, he barely recognized himself.

Yet even in his darkest hours, he never once gave up on Zicheng.

Taking his child on a road trip around China's border was his way of fighting despair. Some people told him, "Traveling isn't as worry-free as institutional intervention," but he insisted: "The more roads we walk, the more people we meet, the more stable my child's emotions become." Today, Zicheng has become the first child on the spectrum to complete the entire route along China's border.

Beyond travel, flicking eggs, making steamed buns, and doing pull-ups are the account's "same old trio": flicking eggs trains fine motor skills, making buns trains self-care ability, and pull-ups are to give his son strength — so that one day he won't be bullied.

He is strict in training his son, but he is also candid: "The videos only show the beautiful parts. What he's like when he loses his temper, only we know."

After Zicheng became famous, the goodwill of netizens came surging in as well. Some drew comics wishing Zicheng could "flick prejudice to pieces"; some edited heartwarming videos to encourage this father and son; and long-time followers spontaneously explained autism to others, hoping the traffic would bring this family a little more care.

In a livestream, someone cautiously asked Zicheng's father whether he minded people making memes of his son. He waved his hand with a smile: "Let them. It's all fine."

Having survived a life-or-death passage and walked the hardest roads, this father wants only to pave the way to his son's future with day-after-day persistence.

May this weighty father's love shelter Zicheng and let the world treat him gently; and may every autism family, even in the darkness, wait long enough to see the light that belongs to them.
